The Dyson DC35 is a powerful, cordless vacuum cleaner with typical Dyson flair, extravagance and style.
It should be noted that the Dyson DC35 is a truly 2-in-1 solution. Up top you have the powerful motor unit which is essentially a hand-vac.
This is attached by a long wand (with excellent reach) to the floor tool which can be connected or disconnected as desired.
What will you enjoy about using the Dyson DC35?
- Dyson’s own Root Cyclone Technology - which ensures that there is no loss of suction power when vacuuming.
- True cordless solution, utilizing a 22.2 Volt Lithium-ion battery that won’t fade in output over time. This is the same 100% capacity solution at all times that the Hoover Linx stick vacuum employs.
- Washable filter, wall mount stand and relatively quiet operation.
- The DC35 is extremely well built and is very easy to grab quickly for a spot of vacuuming. Highly maneuverable and ergonomic too.
- Extremely easy to empty the dust canister. Simply push a button and the dust will exit from the bottom with literally no mess.
Dyson DC35 review
The Dyson DC35 is quite a powerful sucker for a cordless vacuum cleaner. While the most powerful vacuums in general will be those that use mains electricity (like the Dyson DC25 and DC28), Dyson claim that they haven’t had to make much of a compromose on power thanks to what they call a digital motor.
This so-called digital motor is very efficient and up to 3 times faster than an equivalent motor. While it would be hard to actually pinpoint what all of that means, it is evident that it has worked on account of all the positive reviews mentioning the power of the DC35.
The motorized brush head with carbon fiber brushes will perform exceptionally on all surfaces, and you also have the usual assortment of attachments like crevice and combination brush tools for whatever takes your fancy.
Importantly, the brush head can be turned off for hard flooring.
One particular reviewer didn’t like the fact that there was no flexible hose accessory to clean under the car seats – this may or may not be a problem for you though.
Storage and weight
The DC35 features a wall mount bracket so that you can easily store it on the wall when not in use. However, some people have expressed concerns with only being able to use screws to install the mounting system and you may find it difficult to find a suitable position that is near enough to a power point (the cord is very short).

to understand what I mean.
If you don’t want to wall mount the machine, then you have to find a place to rest it against something as it won’t stand up by itself (although that is probably the first thing you realized when looking at the product picture).
It weighs in at around 5 pounds which would be very light for an upright vacuum cleaner but you have to classify this one as a hand-held vac. The weight probably won’t be a problem for the vast majority though. You might get a slightly sore wrist at the worst.
Battery life
Before you make any final decision, some facts need to be got out of the way. The battery will last about 15-20 minutes at best and will take 3.5 hours to recharge.
The Dyson DC35 is more of an ‘odd-job’ vacuum that a primary unit, but it does anything *well*.
If it is not going to suit your home or your needs, then don’t buy it and complain afterward like many reviewers!
What are others saying about the Dyson DC35?
This vacuum has an average 4.5/5 star rating amongst many reviewers. Quietness, washable filters, strong suction and appearance were all major points of interest.
Many of the negative points came from people who, after spending all the money on the thing, whined and moaned that the DC35 only lasted 15 minutes (this despite being written and plainly advertised everywhere).
Some people didn’t like to have to hold the button down to use it, and personally I would have expected more for a vacuum of this price. It didn’t seem to be much of an issue for most people though.
Maybe Dyson are trying to tout it more as a true hand-held vacuum, I don’t know… but it should conserve battery life because you are only vacuuming when you really need, and it won’t ever be left running if you get distracted.
Stephen C. Lee shared his experiences with the DC35:
I have a closet full of broken dreams when it comes to vacuum cleaners, both handheld and floor models. I have tried everything from “sticks” to cannisters to yes, even a strap-on backpack model. All have failed me in one way or another. My latest Black and Decker battery powered “Dustbuster” for instance, is impressively noisy but regurgitates a good portion of what I just picked up with it. I have to carry it around the house like a dueling pistol, pointed up in the air or lose half the contents all over the floor.
The Dyson on the other hand, works great. I assembled it in seconds, charged up the battery and went to work. Using the floor attachment on a small stand alone carpet, I was impressed by the suction as it actually lifted the carpet from the floor at the edges. The wand works fantastic in the corners and in those hard to reach places where my three calico cats like to mass produce hair balls. Unlike my aforementioned Dustbuster, which requires either a hunchback stance or modified duck waddling to do the job, I can stand upright when using the Dyson…
Conclusion

The Dyson DC35 is what it is. A highly effective, easy to use and most importantly powerful cordless vacuum cleaner. I like the fact that the suction is so powerful.
I also like the fact that Dyson have made the dust canister very easy to empty. It’s almost as if they were anticipating that so much dust would get sucked in the first place. It is a pricey unit, but the price for many will be worth it. If you want to have a look at a cheaper but very highly rated cordless stick vacuum then consider the Hoover Linx. |
